The current feeling around Tottenham's academy has divided thoughts amongst fans and those following the club. From optimism and excitement to worry and uncertainty, Tottenham's academy choices are splitting opinions.

So far, Tottenham are having the summer of a lifetime with first-team transfers. However, this has come at a cost to the academy, with many talented youngsters leaving the club permanently. Although, as with Will Lankshear's transfer to Middlesbrough, Tottenham managed to strike a deal worth Β£20 million, with add-ons and sell-on clauses. This was seen as very good business and a deal too good to turn down. But with others like Tynan Thompson, Alfie Devine and Luka Vuskovic departing, many are worried about what that means for the academy, with some hopefuls for the first team, especially talented centre-back Luka Vuskovic.

The feeling amongst the fans is: why are Tottenham selling so many talented young players? With two 17th-placed finishes in the league in the last two seasons, Tottenham are starting a massive rebuild to get the club back to where they belong and, unfortunately, a few sales of young talent are collateral damage in doing so. In the long run, it will benefit the club as a whole and the academy's future. Tottenham will focus more on additions at Under-15 level and below to ensure there are clearer pathways to becoming a professional.

The academy has shown, through its sales, that what they are doing has worked, and now the next step is getting a few more into the Tottenham first team, following in the footsteps of others such as Harry Kane, Harry Winks and, more recently, Mikey Moore, who has been getting first-team minutes. Tottenham fans can also be excited by some of the talent close to breaking through into the first team for the upcoming season. These are three players to look out for this season to have breakthrough years in the academy or out on loan.

Luca Williams-Barnett

Firstly, it's no surprise that Luca Williams-Barnett is one to watch this season. A talented attacker, he plays his best football off the left or as a No. 10. Tottenham fans already know a lot about this academy star, but if they didn't, they will after Tottenham's pre-season tour. Luca has been exciting the fans with performances against MK Dons and Sydney.

Luca is highly thought of within Tottenham because of his exciting attacking threat. Last season, he scored 16 goals and assisted eight in 20 games in the youth academy. Luca is direct with the ball, looking to make things happen and get fans on the edge of their seats. He is already making an impression on his manager and teammates, with De Zerbi and Davies, to name a few, speaking about his ability in the media. If Luca continues developing in the way he is, then Tottenham fans can be very excited about the player they have on their hands.

Malachi Hardy

The second player to watch this season is Malachi Hardy. A strong young centre-back, he has impressed in the academy. He is another young player who has taken his chance this pre-season, performing excellently at every given opportunity. De Zerbi has also praised Hardy in the media, pointing out the talent the youngster has.

"It's very important to produce players from the academy. Now we are working on three or four potential very good players like Luca Williams-Barnett, Malachi Hardy and Mikey Moore, even if he's older."

This just outlines what Tottenham think of Hardy and their hopes for him in the future. Hardy has been heavily linked with a loan move for the upcoming season, with a host of English clubs interested in the young centre-back. A loan would be a great opportunity for him to continue his development and gain first-team experience.

James Roswell

The last player to watch out of the academy for the upcoming season is James Roswell. Tottenham fans might remember him from his late cameo away at Anfield towards the end of last season. Roswell was subbed on late as Tottenham held onto a crucial point thanks to Richarlison's late equaliser. To be subbed on in a game of that magnitude again shows the faith Tottenham have in the young defender's ability.

Unfortunately, an injury kept him from going on the pre-season tour, but he will be raring to go for the season in the academy. He will be hoping for more opportunities to be part of the first team if he doesn't get a loan opportunity. An exciting prospect.
