Spurs' Transfer Window So Far

Without a doubt, Spurs have been the busiest Premier League club in this summer's transfer window, and rightly so — after consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes, something had to change. And it did.

Tottenham have struck the right balance so far this window, mixing proven quality with young, promising stars. What has been very consistent throughout, though, is that all six summer signings featured in last season's Premier League campaign.

Experience at the back was brought in through veteran full-back Andrew Robertson, alongside Martin Dubravka as back-up between the sticks — now featuring for a fourth English side. As it stands, it looks certain that Cristian Romero will leave London this summer, with Inter, Barcelona and Atlético all potential suitors. The 28-year-old's £200,000-a-week salary will be gladly taken off the books by Spurs come September. Senesi and Van Hecke have come in for a combined £52m, proving to be good business for the Lilywhites.

As for the academy, a young talent risen through the ranks at N17, Tynan Thompson, waved goodbye to London for Manchester as he switched to Old Trafford — reportedly due to a drastic improvement in first-team opportunity prospects for the 18-year-old. The deal is understood to be worth an initial fee of £4m, with potential add-ons rising to a further £4m. A sell-on clause of 15% was also inserted, benefiting Spurs in the event of a future sale. However, the question for Spurs is whether they've let go of a future star of English football — only time will tell.

Will Lankshear, another youngster to depart the club, has joined Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £20m — a fee that would prove to be a club-record signing for the Championship side. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal. However, in this case most Spurs fans will likely be happy with a sale as high as £20m for a young striker who managed to feature in just six games for the North London side, including one goal against Turkish giants Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League 2024/25 campaign.

Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali join the midfield, with Bergvall's future looking uncertain. The two new arrivals cost a combined £185m, displaying a statement of intent from Spurs, fending off Manchester United and Manchester City for the respective signatures. Bergvall has attracted interest from two Premier League clubs in Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, with a bid rejected from each — £46m from Newcastle and £38m from Forest. Whether or not these clubs rekindle their interest is yet to be seen, but Spurs want upwards of £50m and may push for closer to £60m for the Swede.

As for potential outgoing business, Villa are eyeing Spurs' Pape Sarr, with a bid reportedly being prepared. As for incomings, Savinho is all but done after a verbal agreement was reached for a packaged fee in the region of £65m. Other wingers are under consideration, with names such as Cody Gakpo and Omar Marmoush being floated around. Interest in Pedro Neto is said to have cooled after an opening verbal bid was submitted.

So far, with one month left in the window, Tottenham have spent £237m over six players — two of them free, in Dubravka and Senesi. That figure is expected to comfortably exceed the £300m mark, with Savinho expected next and other targets being lined up.

For comparison, in the past two transfer windows, Spurs spent a combined total of £227.8m — a fee much lower than this summer's so far, never mind the expected final figure. This displays Spurs' real wave of urgency after the wake-up call that has been the past two seasons, despite 2024/25's European trophy lift.
