Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Cristian Romero has joined Atlético Madrid.

The Argentine defender leaves North London after making 156 appearances for Spurs across all competitions. He joined from Atalanta in 2021 and became an important member of the squad, playing a key role in the club's 2024/25 UEFA Europa League triumph before being named captain for the following season.

Romero also enjoyed considerable success with Argentina during his time at Tottenham. Already a Copa América winner when he arrived, he lifted the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and won the Copa América for a second time in 2024.
