Sávio Joins from Manchester City

We are delighted to announce the signing of Sávio from Manchester City.

“As soon as I spoke to the Head Coach I knew I had to come”

Sávio said: "It's taken a while but I'm very happy to be here.

"It's a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

"As soon as I spoke to the Head Coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

The club's view

Sporting Director, Johan Lange said: "Sávio is someone who has been on our radar for a while and I'm delighted that he is now a Tottenham Hotspur player.

"He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here.

"I know he will excite our supporters every time he gets on the ball and I'm looking forward to watching his development under Roberto's coaching."

Head Coach, Roberto De Zerbi said: "Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.

"We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team.”

“I've always wanted to be here”

Speaking at greater length after signing, Sávio said: “It took me a while, but I'm here. I'm very happy. I think everyone in my family knows that when Tottenham looked for me, I always wanted to be here. Now I'm here, I'm very happy, my family is happy, that's what matters. I just have to thank God for this wonderful opportunity.

“Tottenham has everything. They have one of the best managers in the world. They have the best training ground in the world. They have the best stadium in the world. Whenever I came to play against Tottenham here, I always told my representative about the club. When he said that the club was interested in me, I was very happy. As I said, I've always wanted to be here now.

“I want to reach the top with this club structure, in Training, stadium and with one of the best coaches in the world, I think we can reach the top. With my colleagues too. We can compete for the Premier League, reach the Champions League… and so it goes, with a lot of humility.”

The De Zerbi factor

Once again, Roberto De Zerbi was a huge influence in Sávio’s arrival. “He said he wanted to help me get to the next level, the highest level,” he added. “So, I think when the coach calls you and tells you that, you have to come, when he calls me, I'm like, ‘wow, I really have to go there’ because it's not just any coach who does that.”

Sávio will wear the no.17 shirt.
